POSITION TITLE:    Child Nutrition Services Manager

 

REPORTS TO:           Director of Child Nutrition Service

 

POSITION SUMMARY: Performs duties to supervise the operation of the kitchen including the training and scheduling of employees, and preparation, storage, inventory, and service of quality food for school meals, snacks and special functions. 

 

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

 

Essential Functions

 

  1. Supervises kitchen staff and participates in the preparation and service of the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and district policies and procedures.
  2. Provides leadership and direction for staff.
  3. Provides orientation and training for new staff. Evaluates employees in all areas of job requirements and responsibilities.
  4. Resolves staff conflict if necessary.
  5. Ensures safe food handling standards are performed in accordance with USDA requirements.
  6. Maintains high standards of cleanliness, sanitation and safety in the food production, storage and meal service areas.
  7. Responsible for ordering and inventory of all food and supplies as needed to ensure District resources are maximized.
  8. Maintains accurate kitchen records in accordance with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), state and local requirements.
  9. Ensures that all equipment in the kitchen is in safe, working condition and immediately notifies the Child Nutrition Office when repairs are needed.
  10. Responds to questions from parents, teachers and school principal.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

 

Marginal Functions

 

  1. Organizes office supplies and re-orders as necessary.
  2. Provides food and service for special functions, as required.

 

Physical/Visual Activities or Demands: Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

 

  1. Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping or crouching, reaching, pushing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing.
  2. Normal attention with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less as well as 20 feet or more, required.
  3. Moderate to heavy physical demand with regular lifting of light (1 to 25 lbs.) items and lifting

of average to heavy items (25lbs. to over 60 lbs.) by hand or with mechanical assistance.

 

Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions: Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

 

Primarily inside working conditions, but with exposure to high heat, noise sufficient to make it necessary to shout, exposure to some physical hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, and atmospheric conditions such as fumes present to the extent of being disagreeable.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education:  Knowledge of food preparation and kitchen and food service operations, requiring basic skills knowledge. Equivalent to graduation from a general or technical high school.

 

Experience:  Requires a minimum of one year up to and including three years of experience in a large-scale kitchen or food service operation, or any equivalent combination of experience and training.  Some previous supervisory experience is preferred.

 

Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

 

  1. Apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
  2. Basic math skills with the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure. Perform the operations with common and decimal fractions. Compute ratio, rate, and percent.
  3. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Attention to detail including task organization, time management and analytical skills.
  5. Perform reading, writing, and speaking at a basic level.
  6. Must possess positive, effective interpersonal skills.

 

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:

 

Computer and related software, cooking and food preparation implements and equipment, calculator, cash register.

 

License(s)/Certification(s) Required:Must be able to obtain ServSafe Certificate within the first 90 days in this position.
