Position Title: Substitute School Counselor

Reports to: Building Principal 

 

 JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

To implement the Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling Program to help contribute to the development of students as mature, able, and responsible men and women.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:

 

 

Implement School Counseling Curriculum.

 Examples of Work Performed:

  1. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  2. Creates a school environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  3. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence (lesson plan) of preparation upon request of administrator.
  4. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of school counseling curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  5. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  6. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior

 Implements Individual Student Planning.

 

Examples of Work Performed:

  1. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  2. Provides Educational Career Planning.
  3. Provides transition activities.
  4. Provides appraisals for students for decision making.
  5. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  6. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms

Responsive Services.

 

Examples of Work Performed:

 

  1. Performs brief individual counseling sessions.
  2. Provides small group counseling.
  3. Participates in crisis intervention.
  4. Leads CARE teams and Response to Intervention Programs.
  5. Consults with teachers, staff, students and parents on educational issues.
  6. Leads the referral for special education process

 

 System Support

  1. Program management

  3. Develops and participates in Professional Development
  4. Helps support staff and community relations
  5. Consults and collaborates on a number of building level teams
  6. Participates in building and district level committees
  7. Community outreach

 Other Duties as Assigned

  1. Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  2. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  3. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  4. Maintains and continuously improves professional competence through regular attendance at PDC activities and other professional development opportunities support by the district.
  5. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education – Master’s Degree in School Counseling, and Counseling Certification issued by the DESE.

 

Knowledge/Skills 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and to lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required included close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust and focus, and depth perception. Specific hearing abilities required include normal conversation, phone conversation, and isolating voices in multiple conversations.   

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS:

Works in a school environment a majority of the time and is required to work outdoors for a small portion of the day.

 

EQUIPMENT / TOOLS/ MATERIALS USED:

Personal computer, copier, fax, 10 key calculator.

 

REQUIRED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: None

 

 

Period of Employment: As needed, at will, and temporary status.

 

 

Salary Range: $135.00 per day

 

 

License(s)/Certification(s) Required: Counselor Certification issued by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
