JOB SUMMARY:

The FIT Tutor will travel to assigned schools throughout the Hazelwood School District to provide supplemental academic services and facilitate student achievement by helping students to learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.  The following positions are available and applicants can work for up to a maximum of 15 hours per week:

  • Elementary 
  • Middle School Math
  • Middle School English
  • High School Math
  • High School English
     

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Facilitate student achievement. 

 

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Provides supplemental services to students who require additional support.
  • Meets and instructs assigned students upon request
  • Creates an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. 

 

 

  • Monitors student achievement.

 

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Assesses the accomplishments of students after help has been provided.
  • Communicates with homeroom, special education teacher, English Learner teacher as needed.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.

  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Completes FIT Tutor tracking tools.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:  Education – Bachelor’s degree and a Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Teaching Certification.   Certificate issued by Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education required with appropriate grade level and content certification.  

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:  Broad knowledge of curriculum, instruction and assessment; Extensive knowledge of Missouri Learning Standards; Knowledge of various instructional delivery models; Knowledge of research-based and evidence-based instructional strategies.  

 

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Requires evidence of improving student achievement; Training and practical experience in instructional management and effective teaching models

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and to lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required included close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust and focus, and depth perception. Specific hearing abilities required include normal conversation and isolating voices in multiple conversations.   

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS: 

Travels to and works in different school environments a majority of the time.

 

EQUIPMENT / TOOLS/ MATERIALS USED: 

Computer, copier, scanner, projector, telephone, calculator.

 

REQUIRED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: None 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a federally-funded position and will require the teacher to complete a time and effort document for pay. The position pays $24.00 per session. Each session is 1.5 hours which includes prep time and student tutoring.
