Lead Counselor/Social Worker

 

Reports to the Assistant Superintendent  of Student Services

 

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

To provide guidance to counselors and social workers in all areas of responsibility and to manage the section 504 process in the district

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:

 

  1. Coach Counselors in the Implementation of the School Counseling Curriculum.

 

Examples of Work Performed:

 

Coaches Counselors with the Following Tasks:

  1. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  2. Creates a school environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  3. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence (lesson plan) of preparation upon request of administrator.
  4. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of school counseling curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  5. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  6. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior

 

  1. Supports Counselors and Socials workers in implementing Individual Student Planning.

 

Examples of Work Performed:

 

Coaches Counselors and Social Workers with the Following Tasks:

  1. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  2. Provides Educational Career Planning.
  3. Provides transition activities.
  4. Provides appraisals for students for decision making.
  5. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  6. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

 

  1. Support Counselors and Social Workers in Responsive Services.

 

Examples of Work Performed:

 

Coaches Counselors and Social Workers with the Following Tasks:

 

  1. Performs brief individual counseling sessions.
  2. Provides small group counseling.
  3. Participates in crisis intervention.
  4. Leads CARE teams and Response to Intervention Programs.
  5. Consults with teachers, staff, students and parents on educational issues.
  6. Leads the referral for special education process.
  7. Provides Guidance in the Area of System Supports for Counselors, Social Workers and

Examples of Work Performed:

Coaches Counselors and Social Workers with the Following Tasks:

  1. Program management
  2. Evaluations
  3. Develops and participates in Professional Development
  4. Helps support staff and community relations
  5. Consults and collaborates on a number of building level teams
  6. Participates in building and district level committees
  7. Community outreach
  8. Program advocacy
  9. School support

 

  1. Provides Guidance to Schools in Developing and Monitoring Section 504 Plans

Examples of Work Performed:

  1. Provides Professional Development in the Area of Section 504 Plans
  2. Provides Guidance in Developing Compliant Section 504 Plans
  3. Monitors all Section 504 Plans in the District
  4. Attends Section 504 Meetings

 

 

  1. Other Duties as Assigned
  1. Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  2. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  3. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner
  4. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher/building aides and volunteers and, cooperatively with administrator, evaluates their job performance by providing meaningful input.
  5. Maintains and continuously improves professional competence through regular attendance at PDC activities and other professional development opportunities support by the district.
  6. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education – Master’s Degree in School Counseling and/or certified as a LCSW and three years as a classroom teacher or the equivalency in a related field.  MO certification required: Master’s Degree in School Counseling and/or Licensed at a LCSW

 

 

Knowledge/Skills 

  •  Proficient in preparing rigorous, interactive, exciting, and informative lesson plans
  •  Proficient in Word, Excel, Power Point, Desktop Publisher and database management.
  •  Able to work effectively with colleagues, parents, administrators, etc.
  •  Superior interpersonal skills to facilitate an excellent educational experience for students in a high energy/stress environment.
  •  Discretion and confidentiality with an awareness of all District requirements and      Board of Education Policies.
  •  Excellent written and verbal communication skills needed.
  •  Must be self-directed, highly motivated, and able to work independently.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and to lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required included close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust and focus, and depth perception. Specific hearing abilities required include normal conversation, phone conversation, and isolating voices in multiple conversations.   

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS:

Works in a school environment a majority of the time and is required to work outdoors for a small portion of the day.

Personal computer, copier, fax, 10 key calculator.
