POSITION TITLE:    Early Childhood Diagnostic Social Worker

 

REPORTS TO:           Director of Early Childhood Education

 

POSITION SUMMARY:  Provides skilled psychological/social examination and diagnostic services to qualifying children. Works with students, families, and program staff to develop a learning/intervention plan that meets the needs of students struggling in social/emotional regulation.

 

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

 

Essential Functions

 

  1. Facilitate data gathering process for students with social/emotional needs to aide in the comprehensive ECSE diagnostic evaluation.
  2. Administer rating scales, and other Diagnostic assessments (Conners, etc.), with parents and staff input, to determine student needs.
  3. Summarize psychological/social assessments findings and provide parents with an interpretive conference and written reports.
  4. Conduct crisis intervention and community-based referrals with families and develop a plan for continued support with the program Social Workers and BCBA’s.
  5. Work with the Diagnostic team to conduct initial referrals and re-evaluations.
  6. Collect data for functional behavior assessments, use data to create behavior/crisis intervention plans for struggling students.
  7. Conduct visits for students with Individualized Education Plans that require Social/Emotional support at school and home.
  8. Support the site-based Social Workers with student/family needs.

 

 

Marginal Functions

 

  1. Assists with playground and bus duties as required.
  2. Copies classroom materials on copy machine as required.
  3. Assist the building team with emergency response to student behavior situations.

 

Physical/Visual Activities or Demands: Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

 

  1. Standing, walking, sitting, balancing, stooping or crouching, reaching, pushing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing.
  1. Normal attention with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less as well as 20 feet or more, and ability to ID and distinguish colors, required.
  1. Light to moderate physical demand with regular lifting of very light to light (1 to 25 lbs.) items, and

     occasional lifting of average to heavy (25lbs. to over 60lbs.), by hand.

 

Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions: Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

 

Subject to both inside and outside (playground duty) conditions.

 

 

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education:  Broad knowledge of Social Work with experience working with Early Childhood students and their families.

 

Experience: 1-3 years’ experience in Social Work including family support, education, training, and crisis intervention. Strong emphasis in working with children ages 3-5 years with developmental delays.

  1. Apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
  2. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure. Perform the operations with like common and decimal fractions. Compute ratio, rate, and percent.
  3. Perform reading, writing, and speaking at an intermediate level.
  4. Must demonstrate the intellectual, technical and human relations skills needed to work cooperatively with colleagues, parents and community groups on order to accomplish District goals.

Computer and related software.

 

License(s)/Certification(s) Required: Master’s Degree in Social Work
