JOB SUMMARY:


The Title I home school communicator provides support, education, and resource referrals to students and families. The Title I home school communicator will provide interventions to students and perform therapeutic services to individual students and their families to assist with social and emotional concerns related to their educational and social progress. The Title I home school communicator will provide consultation and support to staff.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:
1. Provide at risk students with education, support and resource referrals that support educational and social progress.
Examples of Work Performed:

  1. Provide individual, family or group therapy for children who are experiencing problems in school, home, or community with an emphasis on early intervention and prevention.
  2. Develop support plans for students with identified goals, and report progress of the student.
  3. Provide crisis intervention which is geared towards protecting the safety and emotional well-being of students.
  4. Complete home visits with students and families as necessary to improve the home-school connection with the goal of improving academic and behavioral success.
  5. Consult with parents, teachers, nurses, counselors, administrators, other school staff, as well as outside agencies, to assist in the planning and programming for students.
  6. Set individual student goals, document services provided, and monitor progress of each individual student.
  7. Analyze student specific data of students who require additional supports to determine needed interventions and progress of students.
  8. Encourage and assist families in the pursuit of community services that may assist with the current presenting problem.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned based on student, teacher, school or District needs.

2. Provide support to teachers and other school staff for students with social and emotional concerns as related to their educational and social progress.

 

Examples of Work Performed:

 

  1. Receive information from staff, administrators, and parents regarding appropriate services at school, and in the home, for students who require additional support.

  3. Attend and participate in staffings, IEP meetings, 504 plans, and care team referrals to provide input in developing treatment goals, behavioral interventions, and additional supports for the child.
  4. Provide staff support and education in the area of childhood mental health and human behavior.
  5. Report progress of students to staff and administrators on an on-going basis.
  6. Participate as a member of school wide PBIS leadership team to provide input in developing behavioral interventions and intervention system support.
  7. Serve as a task-manager for graduate social work students from local universities as deemed necessary.
  8. Develop a network of support systems with other district social workers, outside agencies, and district staff to support students and families.

3. Attend and participates in all required meetings and professional development. Examples of Work Performed:

 

  1. Actively lead and/or participate in district professional development activities.
  2. Actively lead and/or participate in building professional development activities.
  3. Actively lead and/or participate in specific professional development meetings as deemed necessary to assist students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Master’s degree and social worker’s license (LCSW), master’s degree and counseling license (LPC), or counseling certificate issued by Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
Preferred Master’s degree and social worker’s license (LCSW) with school social work experience.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Broad knowledge of social work services, student interventions, and support systems for students and families.


EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Requires experience in providing social services or counseling assistance to children and their families.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and to lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required included close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust and focus, and depth perception. Specific hearing abilities required include normal conversation, phone conversation, and isolating voices in multiple conversations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS:

Primarily inside working conditions. May include home visits.

Computer, copier, scanner, projector, telephone, calculator.

 

REQUIRED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: None

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Assigned to the social worker salary schedule; compensation and benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Partial Tuition Reimbursement) as provided by the Board of Education Note: This position may be subject to social security withholding, and credit for the Missouri Public School Retirement System. The Title I home school communicator is funded 100% by Title I funds. Should funds no longer be available, or the schoolwide Title I plan change, the position may be eliminated to meet the needs of the Title I school.
